RBC Capital Markets has poached a senior banker from BNP Paribas to work with financial sponsors, as banks look to gain market share with private equity companies that continue to spend huge amounts of capital.

The Canadian investment bank has hired Anthony Sage as vice chair of sponsor coverage, a spokesperson confirmed to Financial News. Sage will report to Josh Critchley, head of European and Asia Pacific investment banking at RBC Capital Markets and will look to bolster the bank’s coverage of large financial sponsors clients.
