But UK bank says it is very unlikely to hit a 12% return-on-equity target for 2020

Royal Bank of Scotland on Friday reported a sharp rise in operating pre-tax profit for the second quarter of 2019 and declared a special dividend.

The majority state-owned UK lender made a profit of £1.68bn pounds ($2.04bn) for the three months ended June 30, compared with £613m in the year-earlier period.
