The chief financial officer of the Royal Bank of Scotland has quit the government-owned bank as it prepares to face shareholders at its annual general meeting.

Ewen Stevenson has resigned to take up an opportunity elsewhere, the bank said on Wednesday. His exact departure date has not been confirmed.
