HSBC lifer bows out from the bank he joined as a graduate trainee in 1989

John Flint has unexpectedly quit as chief executive of HSBC after only 18 months in the role.

An HSBC lifer, Flint succeeded Stuart Gulliver as head of the UK’s largest lender in February 2018. He announced his decision to stand down in an internal memo to staff sent in the early hours of August 5.
