Regulators lukewarm on bank research proposals

US regulators gave a lukewarm reception to proposals from Wall Street firms on how to fund independent research, warning that they appeared too bureaucratic.

Ten leading Wall Street banks met with Eliot Spitzer, New York State attorney general and officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursdays to air their ideas for funding research.
