Philip Remnant, director general of the UK Takeover Panel, has added weight to criticisms levelled against European takeover directive proposals. Remnant believes the latest proposals, published last month, could complicate matters unnecessarily and lead to litigation.

He voiced his concerns last week, saying that there would be increased litigation if the European Union did not alter its stance on the rights of parties involved in takeovers.
