A group of financial experts has called for the removal within three years of barriers to an integrated European clearing and settlement system.

In an earlier report in 2001, the group chaired by Alberto Giovannini which advises the European Commission on financial sector issues, had identified 15 significant barriers to integration of clearing and settlement services.
