Returns on US private equity fall by half

Long-term returns on US private equity investments last year slumped to half that of 2001, according to figures from the National Venture Capital Association of the US and Thomson Venture Economics, the data provider.

In a foreboding sign to private equity and venture capital investors in Europe, private equity investments returned 8% over five years ending September 2002, compared with 17% for the five-year period ending September 2001.
