Twenty one of Europe's biggest private equity firms were behind the launch of the Private Equity Foundation, a new charity that hosted its first event last week in London.

The foundation was incorporated last July to help improve the public image of the private equity industry, according to documents available from Companies House and registered with the UK Charities Commission in September. Financial News can now reveal the names of the backers.
