Middle East IPO market springs to life

Investor appetite for emerging markets fuels strong Q1 in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, but over-subscriptions yet to reach boom-time highs

The number of initial public offerings in the Middle East increased fivefold in the first quarter of the year, according to a report from Ernst & Young, as investor confidence in emerging markets swelled – although appetite for stocks in the region has yet to return to its boom-time high.

Six regional companies went public in the first quarter of this year raising $420.5m, compared to $83.6m raised in the same period of 2009.
