Richard Buxton, the star UK equities fund manager, has stepped down as chief executive of Merian Global Investors, the asset manager he helped to spin out from Old Mutual at the end of 2017.

Buxton, who will remain with the business, makes way for Mark Gregory, a former chief financial officer of Legal & General, who has been an independent non-executive director on Merian’s board since October 2018.
