The UK government today introduced what it called a “radical” new plan to help the country’s economy through the Covid crisis, as its scheme to pay the wages of workers made inactive by the Covid-19 pandemic comes to an end.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled a wage subsidy plan in a bid to stave off mass unemployment over the next few months as part of his multibillion pound “winter economy plan”.
