Alessandro Daffina, a banker specialising in Italian financial services at Rothschild, has topped the league tables for the busiest M&A bankers in Europe.

He advised on 10 deals in 2002, according to data provider mergermarket, two more than his nearest rival Bertrand Facon, European head of the global industrial and services group at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB).
