RWE floats American Water

American Water, the US water services company, will return to the public markets after three years as RWE, the German utility, opts for an initial public offering over a sale to private equity firms.

RWE completed its $8.6bn (€7.1bn) acquisition of American Water in January 2003 withdrew the listing of the US company, which was then the largest publicly traded water services company in the US.
