S&P finds credit derivatives fail to protect banks

Credit derivatives are not yet helping banks protect themselves meaningfully against potential credit problems, according to a new report by rating agency Standard & Poor's (S&P).

Tanya Azarchs, a credit analyst at Standard & Poor's in New York and author of the report, claims that despite the growing uptake and popularity of these instruments, credit derivatives have not yet helped banks avoid credit crises.
