Standard & Poor's, the independent financial research and ratings firm, has become the latest firm to enter the hedge fund benchmarking business with the launch of the S&P hedge fund index, plus three style-based sub-indices.

The new index is designed to be representative of the wide range of strategies now being practiced by hedge fund managers across the globe.
