Banco de Sabadell, the Spanish bank, is launching a €1.2bn ($1.5bn) rights issue, the largest in Spain for more than three years, to finance its acquisition of local rival Banco Atlántico.

The last big Spanish rights issues was from Terra Networks, the internet service provider, which completed a €2.2bn offer in August 2000.
