Sandelman to shake up research

Bank of America's new equities chief plans to merge equity and fixed income

Jon Sandelman, newly installed as head of equities at Bank of America (BoA) Securities, is planning to combine the bank's equity and fixed-income research groups. Sandelman, who took over the bank's equity division at the end of May, wants BoA to seize the initiative amid questions over the quality of bank research.

"I want to combine fixed-income and equity research and have analysts looking at the whole company. There should be a single piece of research from Bank of America that reviews the whole capital structure for investors," Sandelman says. Investors will receive ideas of how to make arbitrage ideas through buying and selling different parts of the company's capital structure, for example.
