The need for financial advisers to demonstrate greater skill in advising clients on investment funds, and to improve transparency, are likely to be among the core areas of concern for Ron Sandler's inquiry into the retail and life assurance industry.
Sandler, who has just been appointed by UK Chancellor Gordon Brown to head the inquiry, is nicknamed "Rocket Ron" in the City of London. A former head of the Lloyd's insurance market, Sandler subsequently became managing director of Nat West Bank, prior to its takeover by Royal Bank of Scotland, where he worked alongside Paul Myners, Gartmore chairman.
