Sara Lee, the US corporate which last week said it was considering making an offer for UK turkey producer Bernard Matthews, has said that if it makes an offer it will probably be solely in cash.

Sara Lee has appointed Goldman Sachs to advise on the prospective deal. The company has used Goldman in the past, including as adviser for the company's acquisition of apparel manufacturer and marketer Courtaulds Textiles earlier this year.
