Sawiris family becomes second largest Lafarge shareholder

Egypt's wealthiest family has become the second largest shareholder in Lafarge after selling its cement business to the French construction group, which is the world's biggest cement producer.

Orascom Construction Industries, the holding company of the Sawiris family who are the owners of the Middle East's largest telecoms business and Italian mobile operator Wind, sold their cement business to Lafarge for $14.9bn (€10.2bn).
