Scandal-ridden US markets show signs of isolation

Foreign interest in US stocks and bonds fell sharply in the first quarter while at the same time US investors showed signs of retreating from international markets.

Foreign purchases of US stocks and bonds fell 56% from the last quarter of 2001 to first quarter of 2002, according to research by the US Securities Industry Association (SIA), the industry trade body.
