Sources close to Schroders, the UK-listed fund manager, and Financial Risk Management, the fund of hedge funds specialist, have thrown cold water on the suggestions that recent talks between the two will lead to a merger.

Schroders is interested in expanding into the booming fund of hedge fund sector, and has employed the Financial Risk group in the past.
