Schroders, the asset management group, has launched its second private equity fund of funds worth £250m (€357m) to soak up excess demand for the first fund that closed a year ago.

Julian Samways, a director at Schroders, said there had been a significant increase in interest from institutional investors, particularly pension fund managers, to either raise their exposure to private equity or invest in the growing asset class for the first time.
