Scientists call for ‘emergency action’ as virus hospital admissions set to reach March levels

'No amount of contact tracing will work at the moment,' says Professor Karl Friston of University College London. 'It’s gone too far.'

‘The government's top committee of scientists pushed ministers to take "emergency action" to combat the spread of coronavirus, as it forecast hospital admissions in the north of England will spike further.

The Independent Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said on 9 October that hospital admission rates in the region will reach pre-lockdown levels, last seen on 23 March in London, within the next week.
