Scotland bans indoor alcohol sales and forces early closure for pubs to contain surging infections

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon informed the Scottish parliament that the measures would be in place for 16 days from 9 October

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has banned pubs from serving customers alcohol indoors along with a slew of other restrictions, including closing early for pubs and restaurants to suppress the spread of Covid-19.

The latest figures show that Scotland, which has a population of nearly 5.5 million people, registered 1,054 daily cases on 7 October, with 319 people hospitalised, an increase of 57 from the previous day. Sturgeon said cases were rising by around 7% per day.
