SEC considers soft commissions clampdown

The Securities and Exchange Commission has agreed unanimously to seek market comment on a rule tightening the use of so-called soft dollar commissions by fund management firms. It is the regulator's first vote under its new chairman Christopher Cox.

The US regulator asked fund managers, brokers and other market participants to provide it with input on the proposed rule within 30 days.
