SEC wants penny pilot for options next January

Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Christopher Cox has requested that the six US options exchanges be ready to implement a pilot program to quote and trade options in pennies starting in January 2007.

In a letter to the exchanges dated yesterday, Cox wrote: "I suggest that the options markets plan for the implementation of a penny pilot beginning on January 29, 2007."
