Werner Seifert, chief executive of Deutsche Börse, has reaffirmed his long-term commitment to a deal with the London Stock Exchange, while simultaneously outlining a more pragmatic strategy for Deutsche Börse's expansion in Europe.
Speaking at Deutsche Börse's annual conference in Frankfurt on Tuesday, Seifert said: "You cannot escape the logic of the iX deal. The business case of iX was and is a good case, but the format and presentation were apparently not so good. We simply have to be more imaginative in resurrecting an idea that has fallen fallow."
