Senators quiz regulators over settlement terms

US regulators have defended their settlement with Wall Street firms over conflicts of interest in the face of demands for stiffer action from US politicians.

Members of the Senate Banking Committee questioned regulators headed by William Donaldson, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission about the settlement, signed with 10 securities firms on April 29.
