Shareholder activism to have lasting effect on executive pay

The recent wave of shareholders railing against "fat cat" executive pay packages is likely to have a lasting effect on remuneration policies at UK companies, according to a new survey from Watson Wyatt.

The investment consultancy interviewed chairmen of FTSE 350 companies. Half of them said shareholder activism has prompted them to review their approach to executive pay. Over two-thirds of respondents expect that an increasing proportion of pay will be performance related.
