Sharp rise in foreign acquisitions by UK firms

UK companies spent £126.7bn (€209.9bn) on overseas acquisitions in the second quarter of this year, compared with just £13.2bn in the first quarter.

However, the data from the Office for National Statistics in the UK shows that most of the value came from just one deal, Vodafone AirTouch's £101.2bn acquisition of Mannesmann.
