Shell shareholders revolt over pay and climate change

A quarter of shareholders register a protest vote against CEO's $10m payslip — and climate protesters land a warning shot too

A quarter of shareholders in Royal Dutch Shell said 'no' to the $10m pay packet awarded to chief executive Ben van Beurden last year, as investors continue to slowly tighten the screws on bosses' bonuses.

At the oil giant's general shareholder meeting on May 22, just over 25% of those owning its stock voted to reject the company's annual remuneration report, while just under 1% abstained.
