UK stockbroker Shore Capital has hired Collins Stewart's former head of sales, John Phelps, to help expand its equity underwriting business. Phelps left Collins Stewart last May after nearly six years at the broker and started work at Shore Capital last week.

Simon Fine, a managing director at Shore Capital, said Phelps would concentrate on UK institutions and have no specific sector responsibilities.
