The decision to wind up Neil Woodford's Equity Income fund may well turn out to be in the interests of investors. But it is worth pointing out that the interests of the other parties involved are not perfectly aligned with those of the fundholders.

For Woodford himself, the situation has looked pretty binary. If he continued to manage the suspended fund there was at least a chance that performance would improve enough to float him and his flagship off the rocks.
