Sir Fred Goodwin has being doing his best to stay out of the headlines since leaving RBS on its knees and begging the British Government for a bailout. However the outcry over his £700,000-a-year pension put paid to any plans for a quiet walk into the sunset. He was forced to flee the UK after his Edinburgh home was attacked, and has become a figure of loathing for the British public.

But after being cleared by the FSA yesterday of any wrongdoing in the run up to the financial crisis, has Sir Fred's luck finally changed?
