The first day of a new spread betting service that enables investors to punt on the future movement of London's TechMark index attracted 30 trades - all sells - yesterday.

Although positions of less than £200 were placed on the future movement of the TechMark 100 when the bet was launched by IG Index on Monday, it attracted hundreds of interested calls, said Paul Austin, spokesman. Until now no futures contract has been available on the index.
