Smiths Group, the UK defence company, has appointed Cazenove as a second broker to avoid the conflict of interest issues that left it without a broker for its merger with equipment manufacturer TI Group.

Cazenove will be broker to the group alongside Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB).
