Sonera, the Finnish telecoms carrier, turned to Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein to lead a placement in VoiceStream shares after playing ping-pong between Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs the last few years.

Merrill has lead-managed two issues of Sonera stock for the Finnish government, and Goldman has handled one.
