Neil Woodford has issued a second apology over the suspension of his flagship fund, writing to high-street financial advisers and other fund buyers to say he is “deeply sorry for putting you in this situation”.

The fund manager conceded his investment performance “has been disappointing for some time” but insisted he can turn his Equity Income fund around. “I have a window in which I need to deliver to retain your confidence,” he wrote.
