Sovereign defaults to fall in the short term

Defaults by sovereign governments fell in the first three quarters if this year and will probably fall further next year, according to Standard & Poor's, the ratings agency.

Three new governments have defaulted on their debt this year, compared with five last year. At the same time, five sovereigns have emerged from default and resumed normal debt service.
