Political risks stemming from Brexit and the rise of populist politicians typified by Donald Trump are among the factors that will hit the creditworthiness of the global banking sector in 2017, according to ratings agency Standard & Poor's.

S&P Global Ratings said in a report published on November 23 that there will be significant risks to the credit quality of the sector next year. This will likely impact earnings, profitability and asset quality.
