Standard Life, the UK mutual firm, has hired Alison Reed, the former finance director at retailer Marks & Spencer, as its new finance director.

Reed, one of the few remaining female finance directors in the FTSE100, stepped down from her job at M&S late last year after the company announced disappointing interim results.
