Alan Brown and Peter Leahy have been appointed interim co-heads of State Street Global Advisors following the sudden death of Tim Harbert, chairman and chief executive, from a heart attack.

Harbert, 53, joined the US fund management group in 1987 after working in a management role at Price Waterhouse.
