Sterling jumps as EU says Brexit agreement is ‘within reach’

Sterling advanced 0.8% against the US dollar on the news that a deal could still be possible

Negotiators on both sides of the Brexit debate appeared to be preparing to resume talks on Wednesday, as the European Union's Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier told the European Parliament that the bloc's doors remained open for talks with the UK.

Barnier's comments came days after Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned on 16 October that it was time for the UK to prepare for a no-deal split from the EU, having failed to secure an agreement by its 15 October deadline.
