Stock exchange history repeats itself

This month's bid approach by Nasdaq for the London Stock Exchange brings back memories to those of us involved in the work of the exchanges in the 1980s. At the time, consultants were trying to find a way in which the markets could co-operate – primarily through sharing technology.

Peter Cox led a team of LSE staff to negotiate with the US group, while I was part of Nasdaq's group as managing director of its London operations.
