There are a few examples of successful transitions at the top in Europe.

At $23 billion Lansdowne Partners in London, Peter Davies and Stuart Roden, who manage the flagship $12 billion Developed Markets Strategy with Jonathon Regis, got a larger share of responsibilities in 2013 after co-founders Steven Heinz and Paul Ruddock decided to pursue different paths.
