Sunak promises return to tax freeze ‘when the fiscal circumstances allow’

Before the pandemic, the Tories had promised not to increase VAT, income tax or national insurance

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said he intends to return to the tax policies laid out in the Conservative party manifesto “when the fiscal circumstances allow”.

The UK’s finance minister laid out the government’s Spending Review on 25 November, which included increased spending of £4.3bn to tackle the threat of mass unemployment.
