Company bosses in the UK may have to clear a much higher hurdle to get their pay packets approved by shareholders in future, if the government heeds growing City support for the idea.

The UK's principal lobby groups for bankers, for pension funds, and for big business all backed the idea in separate statements today, February 17 - the government deadline for feedback on its corporate-governance reform agenda.
