Crucial pensions case gets underway at Supreme Court

Judgement in £2.2bn claim brought by Lehman Brothers' and Nortel Networks' pension funds is expected by July

A £2.2bn bankruptcy case begun by pension funds for Lehman Brothers and Nortel Networks, which could affect whether banks lend to companies with a pensions deficit, got underway in the UK Supreme Court today.

The case began four years ago in the wake of the bankruptcies of the US investment bank and the Canadian telecoms group that left behind UK pension funds with deficits of £130m and £2.1bn respectively.
